Salon Spy: Beyond MediSpa, Harvey Nichols

Housed on the heart of Harvey Nichols, London, Beyond MediSpa is a cosmetic spa offering the latest in skin care and body treatments.

The Deep Heat Lava Shell massage is a relaxing body massage which uses naturally self heating Tiger Clam shells from the Philippines as tools to release muscle tension and provide a sense of balance to the body and mind.

The use of shells in massage is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional hot stones - whilst stones require electric heating, lava shells are the world's first naturally self-heating massage tool. The shells work by placing LavaGel, a combination of salt water activator, minerals, sea kelp and algae, inside the centre of the shell which naturally heat it from within.

Seriously stress-busting, The Deep Heat Lava Shell massage offered an intense, comforting massage. My therapist concentrated on my back, using the sustained heat to release tension and soothe sore muscles. The treatment helped to melt away the knots in my upper back and left me with supple and rejuvenated muscles.

Giorgio Armani Designs for Lady GaGa

It seems top dog designer Giorgio Armani has got a bit of a style crush on Lady Gaga! After designing outfits for her performance at the Grammy Awards and also her Monster’s Ball Tour, Lady Gaga appeared on American Idol this week in another specially designed Armani outfit.

The outfit comprised of a silk mesh bodysuit with embroidered Chantilly lace and crystal and jet beading, a silk organza cape with an embroidered hood and black patent stiletto boots.

“Dressing Lady Gaga for the Grammy Awards, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala, and now for American Idol has been a very exciting project. To complement the spirit of Lady Gaga herself, I have let my imagination run free, and the outfit I have created for her for American Idol is pure fantasy."

Do we feel a Gaga/Armani designer collaboration coming on?!

Welcome to The Dressing Room

As if the internet wasn’t a dangerous enough place for Mr. Mastercard, I have just discovered The Dressing Room.

The women’s boutique, which has a stand alone store in St Albans, has gone from strength to strength since the opening in May 2005; it was awarded Best New Fashion Business at the Drapers Awards 2006 and Independent Womenswear Retailer of the Year at the Drapers Fashion Awards in November 2009.

From jeans and tops to jackets and accessories, the store and online shop sell top brands from Angel Jackson to Wildfox, with impressive services including personal styling and Dressing Room to You – a home shopping/party service. My personal favourite has to be the in store shoe lounge, which houses footwear brands such as Steve Madden and Ash.

Check out what The Dressing Room has to offer at http://www.the-dressingroom.com/ – just don’t blame me when the credit card bills come rolling in....

Salon Spy - SUQQU, Selfridges

Deriving from the Japanese word ‘sukku,’ which means ‘posture with attitude,’ Suqqu’s Gankin massage is a revolutionary treatment which explores the relationship between facial muscles and skin tone.

Following a thorough cleanse, tone and moisturise with SUQQU’s own range of skincare, my consultant started with the forehead area, and worked through to the eye, mouth and cheek area, using pressure to relieve tension, drain lymph nodes and stimulate blood circulation. I was amazed at the improvement of the lines on my forehead after such a short amount of time – lines were visibly reduced and my skin was left plumped up.

With such fantastic results I will definitely be integrating the techniques into my daily skincare regime. The 11 step technique is quick and easy to learn and provides your facial muscles with a daily work out, increases skin firmness and combats decreased muscle tone caused by ageing.

If that hasn’t left you convinced, research has shown that the Gankin massage techniques can take up to seven years off your age with regular massages and use of the skincare regime over four weeks.

The SUQQU counter is located in the Living Beauty hall in Selfridges, London.

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer 2010

We always said these girls would look good in a bin liner, but this just takes the biscuit! Kylie Minogue, Sienna Miller and Claudia Schiffer are appearing in the latest campaign of UK charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer, wearing nothing but a silk sheet.

The campaign has been shot by world-renowned photographer Mario Testino, and aims to raise over £1million for the charity. Retailers including M&S, River Island, Warehouse, Topshop, Coast, Laura Ashley, my-wardrobe.com, Whistles, Superdry and Melissa Odabash, have joined forces with Fashion Targets Breast Cancer by stocking items to be sold especially for the cause, with at least 30% of the price of each item going directly to Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Fashion Targets Breast Cancer 2010 marks the first time that Kylie Minogue has fronted a breast cancer charity campaign, since her own diagnosis five years ago.  She said:

"It means so much to me to be part of this years' campaign for Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. I wholeheartedly support their efforts to raise funds for the vital work undertaken by Breakthrough Breast Cancer."

Put Others in the Shade with Chanel

The trend for bold, sporty sunglasses may be big news this season, but this Spring I'll be putting the trend in the shade with these chic sunglasses from Chanel. With their two tone frame and oh so flattering oval lenses, who care's if the British summertime never comes, we'll enjoy posing in them anyway.

Salon Spy: Chi Yu Wellness Centre

Chi Yu Wellness Centre is the destination for an oasis of calm in the heart of urban Marylebone, London.

Inspired by traditional Japanese philosophies, Chi Yu is a holistic wellness centre which offers oriental and complementary therapies and beauty treatments.

I opt for Chi Yu’s signature facial, the Chidoriya Japanese Facial, which combines acupressure, meridian massage and lymphatic drainage to improve skin texture and repair skin cells. The treatment uses the natural Chidoriya product range which was developed in Kyoto, Japan for Maiko dancing girls and Geisha.

Following a thorough cleanse and refreshing exfoliation, Chi Yu’s owner Mami Tsang used cool jade rollers to help lymphatic drainage. She then applied a calamine clay mask with lavender and rosehip oils to combat oiliness and dry skin and used her magical hands to massage out the knots in my neck and shoulders. My treatment was finished with a dusting of natural silk and pearl powder and Yuzu citrus lip balm.

The Chidoriya Japanese Facial left me feeling rejuvenated and relaxed with all signs of tense muscles positively banished. The results continued the following morning, when I awoke to clear and refreshed skin after one of the best nights sleep!

Head to Chi Yu for classic Eastern treatments in the city, and continue the pampering at home with Chidoriya natural skin care products – the Yuzu citrus lip balm is my new beauty staple.

Giorgio Armani for Lady GaGa

Ever since she hit the music scene last year, Lady GaGa’s outfits have gained more column inches than we can count – this week alone she was spotted wearing a Phillip Treacey lobster headpiece and a video camera mounted on one shoulder.

GaGa kicked off her Monster Ball world tour last week, and The Fashion Forecast has had a sneak preview of the outfits that Giorgio Armani has designed for her to wear during the tour.

With key looks including sparkly structured body suits, geometric mini dresses and floor length black patent trenches, each look is completed with specially made matching shoes and sunglasses, all by Armani.

Giorgio Armani says, “We hear Lady Gaga’s music everywhere we go, it is like a soundtrack of our times. In addition to her formidable songwriting skills, she is a modern fashion phenomenon.”

Go West with A|Wear

Erin O'Connor for Hovis

She’s modelled for every top dog in the industry including John Galliano, Christian Dior and Dolce & Gabbana, and featured in every magazine from Vogue to i-D. Well, Erin O’Connor is about to add another top name to her CV because she’s just signed up to be the new face of Hovis.

Yes, you heard right. Supermodel Erin O’Connor, who founded The Model Sanctuary, an oasis for models away from the catwalk, is supporting Hovis by launching a ‘British Fashion Wheat’ sandwich. The sandwich is made using bread made from flour milled from 100% British Wheat which will be on offer to models at The Model Sanctuary during London Fashion Week.

Erin said: “Fashion Week is the highlight of the year for models but it’s also an incredibly busy and stressful time. The Model Sanctuary offers a free, safe and relaxing getaway, staffed by a full-time nutritionist, psychologist and other experts on hand to help out the models. This year I’ve worked with nutritionists at Hovis to create the British Fashion Wheat sandwich specifically for our models to help keep them looking and feeling great during their busy week. It’s made from Hovis 100% British Wheat Original Wheatgerm bread, avocado, smoked salmon and sun-blushed tomatoes and contains a great balance of protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals.”

Apparantly carbs aren't alien to the fashion industry after all....

Ed Hardy by Christian Audigier for OmniPeace

In all my years of credit card bills, I am yet to find perfect t-shirt - until now. On the last day of London Fashion Week, Ed Hardy by Christian Audigier launches their first humanitarian clothing line with OmniPeace.

The limited edition collection includes three distinct styles for women and one for men, all which feature Don Ed Hardy artwork and Christian Audigier iconic graphics within the OmniPeace African continent and peace-sign logo.

The campaign, which works to build schools in Africa, has won support from celebrities such as David Beckham, Eva Longoria, Courtney Cox, Naomi Campbell, Zac Efron, Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Alba, Gwen Stefani, Sheryl Crow and Paloma Faith (pictured).

The t-shirts will be available from the 23rd of February, priced at £139 with 25% of the proceeds being donated to Omnipeace.

Stylish t-shirts which support a good cause - the search is over!

Winter Kate Launches at My Wardrobe

Following the sell-out success of her debut jewellery collection House of Harlow 1960 last year, style icon Nicole Richie has just launched her ready-to-wear collection, Winter Kate.

Available exclusively at My Wardrobe, the collection features feminine maxi dresses, delicate chiffon and lace jackets and tunic tops, all with Nicole’s signature luxe boho style. Plus there’s even a House of Harlow footwear collection - an eclectic mix of heels, moccasin boots, wedges and flat sandals - Fashion Forecast loves these legs-go-on -forever nude platforms.

Speaking of the collection, Nicole said: “Fashion should be accessible. That was my philosophy when designing House of Harlow 1960 and it remains my philosophy for Winter Kate. I started working on this collection in early 2009, the pieces can be dressed up, made casual but most importantly, they provide the wearer a means of self-expression and fun.”

Salon Spy - SPC Spa at Stoke Park

Set within 350 acres of historic parkland, and voted one of the top ten Spas in Britain by Tatler, SPA SPC at Stoke Park Club is the ideal retreat.

SPA SPC is situated in the Pavilion building, which houses 28 luxury bedrooms, indoor heated swimming pool, marble steam rooms, relaxation room, hair salon, nail bar, state of the art gym and 13 multi surface tennis courts.

During my stay I experienced the SPC Aromaheat massage, which uses Hawaiian, Balinese and Thai massage techniques to relax and restore tense muscles. The treatment involves rolling a heated poultice, full of active herbal ingredients along the body to create full relaxation. This is then followed by a pampering hands on massage with warm essential oils to promote extended results. My therapist was friendly, utterly professional and I was left feeling relaxed with soothed muscles.

After such a lavish massage, I was treated to a staggeringly luxurious evening meal in The Dining Room. Executive Head Chef Chris Wheeler joined Stoke Park in 2003 following his role of Group Head Chef at Jean-Christophe Novelli’s empire of Michelin starred London restaurants. I enjoyed Dorset crab, followed by pan fried fillet of sea bass and chocolate supp to finish – needless to say, I will be returning!

RIP Alexander McQueen

It’s a sad day for the fashion industry, because yesterday the British fashion designer Alexander McQueen, real name Lee, was found dead in his London home.

The news comes days before London Fashion Week, and just a month before he was due to present his new collection at Paris Fashion Week.
McQueen was most famous for his controversial catwalk shows, and had been awarded the British Designer of the Year four times. He trained at London’s prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, then set up his own label in 1993 before going on to work as head designer at Givenchy. He has dressed some of the most famous women, including Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and his close friend Isabella Blow, who died in 2007.
His company, Alexander McQueen, issued a statement saying: "On behalf of Lee McQueen's family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand, has been found dead at his home. At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee's family. Lee's family has asked for privacy in order to come to terms with this terrible news and we hope the media will respect this."
RIP to a fashion legend.
